MagiCal! Calendar Software

Ever wish you could see the date on your menubar without clicking on the time? Me too! Now you can.
With MagiCal, you can always see the date, and with one click you can get a dropdown menu with the calendar in month form.

You can't see your upcoming events or to do lists on it yet, but it is free...

Mac

Flickr Backup

I just had a wipeout of some photos, and I needed to get my Flickr photos back onto my computer. I knew it was going to take a lot of time, and I wasn't looking forward to downloading the files one by one by one by etc...

Then I found Flickr Backup, and downloaded all of my 48 pictures at once!

Netafull.net

iPhoto Libraries

Did you know that you can have separate libraries for your iPhoto program? Did you care?
Say for instance you wanna have one, iPhoto library just for family pictures, another one for business (let's say, pictures of all the Koi you sell/eat) and a third one for porn. I mean, when you wanna show pictures of you and your brother to your mom, you dont necessarily wanna show your mother your favorite pictures of Aria Goivanni,do you?

With iPhoto Buddy, its EASY!!!

With iPhoto Buddy, you can easily manage an entire list of iPhoto Libraries, enabling you to quickly and easily open the Library of your choice for viewing/editing/printing in iPhoto. You can easily switch between your multiple Libraries, and iPhoto Buddy will automatically quit iPhoto and instantly re-launch it with the newly selected Library. There is no limit to the number of Libraries, and they can be located in various locations--even on removable or network volumes. Each Library can be assigned its own name that differs from its folder name in the Finder; each Library can be assigned a thumbnail image that can help to remind you of its contents; and each Library can be password protected for privacy/security.

iPhoto Buddy also displays various details about your Libraries without launching iPhoto. Information like each Library's size and image count as well as a complete listing of the Albums, Smart Albums, Folders, Books, Slide Shows, etc. contained therein.

And in keeping with the enhanced integration of the iApps that Apple introduced with the original iLife package, iPhoto Buddy also allows you to open iMovie, iDVD, and iWeb using any of your iPhoto Libraries for importing photos into your Movies, DVDs and websites. In fact with iPhoto Buddy, any application that contains a Media Browser for accessing your iPhoto Library, can used with ANY of your iPhoto Libraries.

Sound Shuffler X 1.6

Sound Shuffler X 1.6 is a great application that is described as follows:
Sick of the default alert sounds that came with your Mac? We are too. This Prefpane will allow you to randomize the beep, each time it occurs. You can also insert your own sounds to the mix. Everytime your system throws an alert beep at you, you'll be welcomed with a randomly picked sound effect instead. Sound Shuffler has two sound playing engines. One uses QuickTime to do the work, which means you can replace your system beep with any format sound that QuickTime supports. Examples are AIFF, MP3, WAV (Windows format), etc. The other engine is an updated version of the one used with the original Sound Shuffler for Mac OS Classic. This handles the older Mac style 'System 7' sounds. Just drop your sounds into the designated sounds folder, and Sound Shuffler begins using them in place of the beep immediately.

It is especially fun if you use the same kinds of files that I do as my alert noises...

Earthbrowser and Cosmosaver

a while ago, i had a cool screensaver called earthbrowser. i got it free form .Mac i believe and while i dont have it now, i have always recieved emails about the program called earthbrowser and decided to take a second look. the maker of earthbrowser has made a new screen save called cosmosaver, here are a couple reviews:

Earthbrowser
with the invention of Google earth, this program might seem obsolete at first, but because it still can display information that google earth doesn't (so far), for information junkies this program may still be worth the $23.95 price of registration.

here are some features taken from the site:
Features
- Amazing 15 meter per pixel resolution worldwide
- Three high resolution 500m base maps of the earth
- Satellite overlays updated daily
- Global weather forecasts for over 17,000 locations
- Live hurricane and tropical storm tracking
- A full year of weekly sea surface temperature animations
- Satellite cloud animations are updated every 3 hours
- Live earthquake map with magnitudes and links
- Live ocean buoy data for over 250 buoys
- Antarctic iceberg tracking
- Daily fire hotspot display
- Hundreds of dynamic webcams all over the globe
- Add and save your own webcams
- Political borders/Tectonic plate boundaries
- Over 15,000 volcanoes with links to more information
- Screen Saver
- Times in cities of all world time zones
- Links to facts about countries all over the world

the screen saver is what originally alerted me to it, and that is cool enough as it is. give it a try.

Cosmosaver
is similar to the earthbrowser screensaver, but it concentrates on the planets in our system and their orbits. no detailed land maps for mars yet im afraid, but it is really cool to see the moons flying around the gas giants in our systems. this is shareware too.

Audio Recording

if you dont wanna shell out the $30 for quicktime pro, you can record for free with a couple of cool programs if you only wanna do audio:

Audio Recorder - 3.1
This is a really simple recoder that can record in just about every audio format you need, including MP3 and MP4. Very simple to use for anyone with a microphone.

Audacity
This one is a little more complicated, but apparently has many more features...

GREAT MACINTOSH SOFTWARE

This blog will simply list my favorite software for Mac OS X users... I won't spend a lot of time on this, because, well frankly, I have a lot of shit to do. Here is a recent favorite find:
INQUISITOR, a fabulous Safari Search program.
Check out the site, you gotta see it to believe it. It makes your Safari Google search window act like Spotlight...
